A Parakeet's Flight: Divine Awakening
During the summer of 2012, I lost a bird. He was a sweet parakeet who talked. He said things like, "I Love you!" and "It's okay." He was also a free-flying bird who one day flew straight out an open door. It would turn out to be a fulcrum moment in my life. During the week he was missing and for days after his limp little body was found, struck by a vehicle, on a bridge over glassy waters, I spent time re-examining and redefining my priorities. It's amazing what a little bird can teach. The loss commenced a search for deeper understanding of my great sadness—the bird symbolic of my own inner death. I'd fallen victim to a career, work. And that little bird was the one thing in my day that forced me to be present. His fleeting spirit inspired Pixie, the yellow parakeet mascot of julianafay.com—a symbol of freedom and divine curiosity that guides my journey. Pixie embodies the awakening sparked by his loss, a reminder to chase mysteries and seek the divine, as I do through Divine Intrigue’s videos and my musings here. My perspective and focus changed after that. You could say I became more selfish of my time, carving out blocks for creative pursuit which, in my opinion, really amounts to spiritual awakening. That continues. I'm a researcher, at heart, deeply committed to finding meaning, understanding. Art is expression, a hallmark of our existence. Words and pictures are what make me feel alive.
